Title: An Optimal Control Problem in Peridynamics: Analysis and Discretization

Abstract: In this talk we will discuss a nonlocal optimal control problem minimizing an abstract cost functional, where the constraint is a strongly coupled system of nonlocal equations derived from the bond-based model of peridynamics. We will demonstrate well-posedness of the optimal control problem, consider the variational convergence to a local control problem as the horizon limit (nonlocal modeling parameter) approaches 0, and discuss the error analysis through a conforming finite element method. After that, we will discuss asymptotic compatibility, which amounts to the unconditional convergence as the horizon limit and mesh parameter both become arbitrarily small with appropriate choice of discretization, and the extension of this notion to our optimal control problems.
